Legionellen: Danger from the tap

In approximately 28 per cent of domestic water supply plants the danger in the bathroom lurks: Bacteria of the kind Legionella. This estimate represents Thomas's Fischer, Geschäftsführer the Royal service GmbH in Tutzing at the Starnberger lake. The enterprise specialized in the conversion of the drinking water regulation 2001. Therefore each owner of living real estates and trade impulses must guarantee the purity of the water with internal supply systems. Which in practice however obviously not always the case is: The collected water tests show according to Fischer always frequent Legionellenbefall. Fischer: “A danger, which one should not underestimate. Infection-threatened are above all humans with weakened strengths.”
Responsibility ends at the Wasseruhr
Drinking water is the only food, which has to replace by nothing. In our life no way leads past the drinking water. This is also one of the reasons, why drinking water with far distance ranks among the most strictly controlled food. Which however many do not know: The responsibility for the quality of drinking water ends for the Versorgungsbetriebe at the Wasseruhr in the house. Thereafter the water is exposed to which influences, lies in the scope of responsibility of the owner or other owner of the water supply plant. “During for example hospitals, old and nursing homes regularly the owners of living real estates examine, worry in-house water quality only in exceptional cases about the purity of the water in the internal water supply”, state Steffen Haase, vice-president of the roof federation of German real estate managers registered association in Berlin. The dangers in many places lurk, whereby the settlement with Legionellen (see box) is to be taken particularly seriously. “Oversized water pipelines and stagnating warm water are an ideal fertile soil for bacteria”, explain Fischer. To find these breeding places are for example in periodically not cleaned hot water tanks or temporarily not used dwellings, in addition, in showers. “We continue to find germs however sometimes also in chilled water lines”, so to Fischer. “The reason: The warm water lines are bad or not at all isolated and do not correspond not to the recognized rules of the technology, so that the warmth crosses on the chilled water line.”
Search for the Krankmachern
On the hunt for potenziellen Krankmachern in the drinking water engineers the Royal service remove first something water directly behind the Wasseruhr. Afterwards a sampling before and after the warm water heater as well as at the point of usage furthest from the warm water heater takes place, preferably in a shower. “Here it shows up best whether in the warm water lines of the building germs settled”, so Fischer. The samples in one of Fischer assigned nationally accredited laboratory analyzed. If bacteria in the samples are, Royal service engineer searches further - so long, until the probable source was found. “Then we conceive the necessary counter measures together with the owner of house or real estate manager. Because the owner and/or operator of the internal water supply plant as well as the real estate manager have responsibility according to Fischer for the perfect trick water quality in its object. After current iurisdiction this measure is reallocationable however only with recurring Beprobungen on species from the Legionellen group. “The investment dependent on the object size is however well put on”, explains the water specialist. Finally Legionellen did not represent a health risk which can be underestimated.
Note: The Royal service GmbH accomplishes Beprobungen in the entire federal territory. Worth knowing over Legionellen
The bacteria kind Legionella was proven only 1976: While a meeting of war veterans (Legionären) in the Philadelphia/USA an epidemic disease broke out among the participants, with which more than 200 humans got sick and deceased to 30. Responsible for the epidemic disease the trunk Legionella was supposed pneumophila, which can cause heavy pneumonias (Legionärskrankheit). Since 2001 are Legionelleninfektionen compulsorily notifiable.
